Cambridge IGCSE — Core

For students building secure foundations in number, algebra and geometry.

  • Number & algebra

Secure the basics every later topic depends on.

  • Geometry & measures

Shape, angle, area and volume, built up step by step.

  • Non-calculator skills

Written methods and confident arithmetic without a calculator.

  • Paper 1 & 3 preparation

Timed practice on the non-calculator and calculator papers, with feedback on where marks go.

  • Securing the top Core grade

The marks that secure it, and an honest view of whether Extended is within reach.

Cambridge IGCSE — Extended

For students taking the full syllabus, with greater depth in algebra, functions and problem solving.

  • Algebra & functions

The extended content that carries the most marks.

  • Geometry & trigonometry

    Circle theorems, trigonometry and vectors.

  • Non-calculator skills

Fractions, surds and algebra worked accurately by hand.

  • Paper 2 & 4 preparation

Timed practice on the non-calculator and calculator papers, with feedback on where marks go.

  • Aiming for the top grades

The hardest questions on each paper, where A and A* are decided.

Edexcel International GCSE — Foundation

For students building secure core skills across the whole specification.

  • Number & algebra

Secure the basics every later topic depends on.

  • Geometry & measures

Shape, angle, area and volume, built up step by step.

  • Problem solving

Worded and multi-step questions, broken down clearly.

  • Paper 1F & 2F preparation

Timed practice on both papers, with feedback on where marks go.

  • Securing a grade 4 or 5

The marks that secure it, and an honest view of whether Higher is within reach.

Edexcel International GCSE — Higher

For students taking the full specification, including its most demanding algebra and functions.

  • Algebra, functions & graphs

The core of the Higher tier, built to be secure.

  • Geometry, vectors & calculus

Circle theorems, 3D trigonometry, vectors and differentiation.

  • Problem solving

Longer, multi-step questions approached with confidence.

  • Paper 1H & 2H preparation

Timed practice on both papers, with feedback on where marks go.

  • Aiming for the top grades

The hardest questions on each paper, where 8 and 9 are decided.

How I teach

  • Understanding before procedures

Why a method works, not only the steps.
  • Clear explanations

Ideas broken down until they make sense.
  • Feedback on every attempt

Specific enough that the same mistake does not come back.
  • Independent thinking

Learning to start an unfamiliar problem without a template.
  • Confidence

Built on understanding, so it holds up in the exam.

Topic areas

  • Number
  • Algebra & graphs
  • Coordinate geometry
  • Geometry
  • Mensuration
  • Trigonometry
  • Vectors & transformations
  • Probability
  • Statistics
  • Functions

Extended and Higher add further topics.

When to start

Common questions

Which exam boards do you cover?

Cambridge IGCSE (Core and Extended) and Edexcel International GCSE (Foundation and Higher). If your child sits a different specification, such as the UK GCSE, just ask. The mathematics overlaps heavily, and I always work from your child's own specification.

What does the tier decide?

Extended and Higher cover more topics and reach the top grades; Core and Foundation cover less and cap the grade available. Schools normally decide, and I can give an honest view of where your child sits.

What language are lessons in?

English. The exam is in English, so the mathematical vocabulary matters as much as the methods. Conversations with parents can be in German, French, Ukrainian or Russian.

Do you teach online or in person?

Both. In person at my place in Kreuzberg, online elsewhere in Europe. Past papers work well on screen, because we annotate the same paper together.

What does it cost, and how do we start?

€50 for 60 minutes, €75 for 90, in a fixed weekly slot invoiced monthly in advance. Two students on the same course can share a lesson for €35 each (€50 each for 90 minutes). The first 30-minute session is free, with no commitment, and there is no minimum term. A lesson cancelled at least 24 hours ahead can be made up, one per month.

What parents & students say

  • Kateryna helped our daughter prepare for her IGCSE math mocks. She was struggling with a few topics and had lost confidence, but after working with Kateryna for about two months the improvement was clear. She went into the exam feeling much more prepared and the result reflected that.
